Chris Chickering has been performing close-up-up-sleight of hand Magic for over 30 years.
Magic is a natural extension of my love of people and performing.
My magical journey began at age 7 during a trip my mother, step-father and I took to the Magic Castle at Disneyland in Anaheim, California. There, we met a man who took my selected card and clearly placed it into the middle of the deck. With a snap, it appeared back on top! I was stunned! He did it again! I was amazed! After a third time I was hooked.
Fortunately no support-groups existed, so I launched into steady practice in the art of sleight-of-hand with cards, coins, sponge balls, rubber bands and cigarettes. A short time later my father showed me the classic stage effect: The Torn and Restored Newspaper (Performed by Doug Henning live on national television), piquing my interest further in stage and mentalist magic.
At 11 I delivered my first paid magical performance. (This ‘low-light’ experience was highlighted by an extremely unfortunate high-speed collision between an enraged 3rd grader and a crowded magic prop-table).
Since then, things have looked up considerably. I’ve had the privilege of entertaining audiences of all sizes, in a wide variety of settings and venues in the United States, Europe and Russia, and have had the privilege of performing at conventions and corporate functions, in private homes, as a magic-bartender and at parties and events of all shapes and sizes.
I love magic for the way it instantly transports us all to a place where life’s day-to-day pressures don’t exist.
It’s a place of joy, laughter and wonder – and it’s a place we go together.
